  • What does article 28 mean?

    Article 28 on the UNICEF NZ website states that every child should have a right to education. The national officials' job is to make primary education free and compulsory. As well as making higher education easily accessible.

    Education is a human right that enables people to live the most of their lives. Education allows people to get better job opportunities and helps to decrease poverty rates.

    Why is education important?

    Education allows people to get a whole lot of opportunities, jobs, decreases rate of poverty and it can also empower women and girls by giving them protection.

    On a wider perspective, education provides a better and healthier economy for the country since more of the people are able to have job opportunities. Therefore more people can afford more expenses and therefore the economy of the country will be better.

    What can we do to help?

    We can donate to charities that helps improve education, especially those who help with rural education such as "The Rising Foundation", "NPH New Zealand" and "Save the Children".

    Or we can also donate unwanted items/not needed items to local schools who might need them.

    Some statistics about education in rural areas

    According to Save the Children, around 250 million five to twelve year old children cannot read or write, whether they're in school or not.

    42% children are out of school globally, with 18% living in a country which is affected by conflict.
